We discussed 3 different types of clowns. Auguste, White Face, and Hobo. We began to design 4 different clowns, per type.
We then chose 1 clown per type. We began with our White Face clowns.
First, I mixed all of my colors I would need on my forearm to see what the colors look like on skin and not on white paper.
Then I did an outline in brown pencil to see where the paint would be going and what to apply first.
Then I applied all of the white paint first, being sure to lift off some of the brown pencil if it starts to mix.
I then slowly added more color. I had to do multiple coats on most areas. I did the red and pinks first, before applying the black. Here are all finished photos!
As our next step in class, we traded designs with the person in class next to us. We got to decide if we would trade our Auguste Clown or Hobo Clown. This is the design I received.
I began again with the LIGHT brown pencil outlining of the design. Very slowly I added white and tried not to smear the pencil into my white paint.
I began to imitate the facial color on the design, onto my face. I then added red, and lastly black.
At this stage, I finished filling in all black areas. I also added a black outline around the face and all features.
This is the finished product!
Your white-faced clown is really adorable! I like how you made the eyes and smile look larger. It sort gives off a cartoony feel.
